Richmond Kickers host West Bromwich Albion
The heat index had climbed to 115° yesterday by game time, but that didn’t deter the faithful fans from filling out Richmond’s City Stadium for the match between the Richmond Kickers of the USL and the West Bromwich Albion of the EPL. Thank goodness they play on natural grass and not turf. Richmond has proven to be one of the best soccer markets in the United States between the Men’s and Women’s World Cup and the Barclays Premier League, making it a destination for now the second year in a row for the EPL’s summer exhibition tour. It was nice to see the aging City Stadium rejuvenated with some rowdy soccer fans. Lightning struck in the fifth minute forcing a delay, and heavy rains began to fall as soon as play resumed. A late goal gave West Brom the 2-1 edge over Richmond.
